Thoughts on My 46th Birthday

The thing you feel is holding you back is really your superpower.

Have you ever made a list of all the things you love about your life and all the things you don’t? I have. And many days the “don’t” list is longer. And definitely more detailed. Maybe you can relate to a few of my top hits: age, credentials, hair texture, finances, health, zip code, limiting beliefs that were planted ages ago that I haven’t finished weeding out, and days that are often shaped by someone else’s story that isn’t entirely mine to tell. But a good friend recently reminded me of this, “The thing you feel is holding you back is really your superpower.” Dang. Try that one on for size.

Thoughts on My 46th Birthday

The things you feel are holding you back—those things that scare you, and embarrass you, and make you feel different—are probably the very things that taught you how beautiful, and bright, and strong you are. They’ve made you, YOU. And that’s interesting. And that’s unique. And that could help somebody out in this life. Now that’s some superpower, for sure.
